Spanish American War

Spanish American War
This political cartoon is about the Spanish American War. The cartoonist wanted to make sure that everyone new that the U.S. military was much stronger than Spain's military. It shows president McKinley letting loose his 'dog' (military) to fight against Spain. As we can see, Spain is running away in quite fear trying to get out of there as fast a possible. The most obvious technique the cartoonist uses is symbolism. The dogs are supposed to represent the U.S. army which are 'let loose' from the city of Tampa. There is also analogy used in this cartoon, because the dogs are strong and tough, just like America's Military. The cartoonist most likely had a positive position of this political cartoon because it was a good thing that America had a strong military. However others may believe that the U.S. did not need to get rid of Spain's nation and that they did not need all the extra land that America gained from this war. This cartoon does not support my position on Imperialism because America should have not taken all 4 of Spain's colonies.
