Annexation of Hawaii

       This political cartoon is about the Annexation of Hawaii. The Annexation of Hawaii was when president McKinley annexed Hawaii to become apart of America. President McKinley did this because America believed that in order to be a strong nation, they needed more land and expand their territory. This political cartoon shows Uncle Sam in Hawaii along with the queen, Liliuokalani and a worker for the queen. The queen looks as if she was dumb which interprets that she was not making the right choices for Hawaii. The cartoonist most likely believed that the Annexation of Hawaii a good choice for America. However others may have believed that America should have not overthrown the queen because she was doing her job. To make this cartoon persuasive, the cartoonist used labeling and symbolism. This cartoon does not support my position of American Imperialism because I do not believe that it was right for America to take over Hawaii, when they wanted to be a free/independent nation.
