Panama Canal
This political cartoon is about the 'Panama Canal.' The Panama Canal is a 35 mile river that connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. Therefore the United States wanted it really bad. In this political cartoon, it shows Teddy Roosevelt riding a wagon. On the wagon it says the words, 'Panama or Bust,' which is a saying that means to go out to the place or not at all. Therefore, this interprets that Teddy Roosevelt will do anything to get to Panama even if he has to break some laws. Some people may think that this political cartoon shows Teddy Roosevelt in a negative way because he is breaking all of these laws, however others might believe that he is doing what is right for America by getting to Panama no matter what it takes and annexing the canal. The tequnices the cartoonist uses are labeling when he/she puts the words 'Panama or Bust' on the wagon and symbolism when he/she uses the elephant to represent the Republican party.
