Roosevelt Corollary

Roosevelt Corollary
This political cartoon shows how the Monroe Doctrine and the Roosevelt Corollary come together. This cartoon shows Teddy Roosevelt at the top right corner of the cartoon on a U.S. ship. He is invading/attacking what seems to be Europe with the ship he is on. The Roosevelt Corollary said that America had the right to take European land whenever they want, however Europe did not have the right to take American land. At the bottom of the cartoon it depicts a Latin American man, which is supposedly the leader of the Republic of Santo Domingo. This man looks upset which may interpret that other nations/countries thought that this rule was unfair and evil. This cartoon was quite persuasive because the cartoonist used symbolism and labeling. The three men on this cartoon represent America. Latin American Nations, and Europe. Also, the cartoonist labeled the U.S. canon ship as the Monroe Doctrine and also labeled Europe. After analyzing this cartoon, I now believe that the Monroe Doctrine was very selfish and that this did not support my view on imperialism.
