Purchase of Alaska
This political cartoon is about the Purchase of Alaska. The cartoonist most likely believed that this purchase was bad for America. In a way, the cartoon shows Alaska as a big rock (waste of land) that America did not need. Also it shows the Russians that sold America this land, walking away with a bag full of money, which interprets that this purchase was also a big waste of money. Although this cartoonist had a negative point of view on the Purchase of Alaska, others may have thought it was good for America because it expanded the U.S. territory. The cartoonist used labeling when he put
the words "Russian American" on the rock/land and analogy when he compares the big rock to Alaska. This shows that America just takes land without thinking about the consequences. Therefore, this does not support my point on American Imperialism because this purchase was quite risky.
